LC's black guitar in a Tel-Aviv museum

The following article includes a photograph of LC’s black guitar which is now displayed in a Tel-Aviv museum. Does anyone know how it got there? This and other articles about the renovated museum do not mention who gave it to them. https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/culture/anu-new-museum-of-the-jewi...

Re: The Partisan and more

B4real, Thanks for all those links; a real treat. As for La Marseillaise, my favorite rendition is, of course, from Casablanca : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOeFhSzoTuc At the beginning of this thread I said that "it’s pathetic to try to come up with songs against brute force", but her...

Re: A Paul Muldoon poem in Memory of LC

Hi Joe, How nice to have this thread revived after a hiatus of three years... Some things are never lost. We followed your cruise adventure with great alarm and were relieved that you've made it back safely. So now you have quite a story to tell and all those interesting connections to offer. That's...

Re: The Partisan and more

I have an update for the above “Greek Partisan” song, thanks to information sent to me privately by a good friend. It turns out that it is not an authentic partisans’ song, but a song titled Ποιός δε μιλά για τη λαμπρή, “Poios den mila gia tin Lambri” from the album Enas Omiros , containing poetry b...

The Partisan and more

“The Partisan” is a song strongly identified with Leonard Cohen, although not written by him. It is one of only ten non-original songs he covered on his various studio and live albums, and the one which stands out most noticeably among them. A particularly exciting moment for me in following him was...

Re: A Leonard Cohen Song Quiz

B4real, A very impressive food list, and I’ve missed quite a few (how could I skip chocolates?). I’m not sure, though, that all those items are actually depicted as food staff, even if they may serve so potentially (“fish” in The Night Of Santiago, for example). You may also wish to double check you...

Re: A Leonard Cohen Song Quiz

Hi All, As stated earlier, a much more exhaustive effort than what I had in mind was demonstrated once again by B4real, so I refer you to her posting and the wealth of information and quotes available there. For what they are worth, here are the answers I prepared in advance, a few of them slightly ...

Re: A Leonard Cohen Song Quiz

B4real,

I’m grateful for your exhaustive effort! Once again, I realized that I should have checked some questions more carefully before posting them, since I had some inexplicable misses. I’ll wait to see if more people are going to post their answers before posting mine on Monday.

Re: A Leonard Cohen Song Quiz

Hi All, A while ago I confessed that “I’ve quite exhausted my personal mine of questions for the time being”, but then I realized I was wrong. So, due to public demand, as they say in certain businesses, I’m offering here another round of questions on LC’s songs. The quiz covers all official studio ...

Re: A Leonard Cohen Song Quiz

Since nobody seems to be taking up the three challenges I mentioned above, here’s my take on one of them: details from the songs on the Thanks for the Dance album that should be added to the previous Q&A. I hope I didn’t miss anything this time. Q 6. The Night Of Santiago (“a gypsy”) Q 11. Happe...

Re: A Leonard Cohen Song Quiz

Jim, Thank you! Bells should certainly be included, and I can’t believe I forgot to include that clarinet. B4real, Sorry, but I remain unconvinced, for several reasons: 1. LC was careful with credits; in the few cases in which credit for lyrics had to be shared (“Got A Little Secret”; “Song Of Berna...
