Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

I've put in a lot of listening time to Leonard's albums these past couple of weeks, and this reminded me of three interesting songs that have not been discussed much here: "Stories of the Street," "A Bunch of Lonesome Heroes," and "The Captain." Would someone want to pick one and start a discussion...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Would someone want to pick one and start a discussion? It would also be interesting to hear what Leonard might have said about these songs (from B4's "archives"), but maybe that should come after our own comments. I will do as you say 4, and wait to post that but in the meantime.... Vickie wrote: I...

Re: I Have No Idea of the Sound I'm Looking For (LC interview 1969)

Glad you enjoyed it Hartmut :D

There are many gems throughout this interview!
For instance, his belief that his work on a personal level is prophetic for him.
On the same train of thought he said he thinks all his dreams have come through.

I Have No Idea of the Sound I'm Looking For (LC interview 1969)

This is a long, most interesting interview where a variety of subjects are discussed and well worth the read if only because of the fact that it is close to the beginning of LC's career in song. The text says "At the moment he is working on a second album of songs". His second album is Songs From A ...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Vickie, That’s an interesting connection too! And yes, I have read all that is available at this stage of Leonard’s words in both song and poetry. There are members here who prefer his written word as poetry to those he has sung. Some of those words do sit differently on the page and that's where th...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Vickie, (I think Dave is slowly seeing how the light gets in, ha!) Poetry seems to be the flavour of the day :) I recently watched a short video of Leonard’s words illuminated on silo 5 with the MAC centre tribute and thought you might be interested in what they mentioned in certain verses. The exce...

Be For Real on TV show

There is a TV show coming to Australia on SBS 30th November called Chance starring Hugh Laurie and in season 1 episode 7 Unlocking Your Hidden Powers features the song Be For Real ;-) with Leonard singing it. As we know Leonard didn’t write this song, Frederick Knight did. As LC says,"Thanks for the...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Vickie, Thanks very much for the photos and info! Wonderful memories for you to have! Looking at the photo with Leonard’s back, his body angles are slightly different from the b & w photo at Dominique Issermann’s Instagram page. It’s as if it was the previous or next shot in line or maybe there actu...

Re: New recording of the song "Book of longing"

I am wondering if there is a recording available or will be one available of Leonard reading from the 'Book of Longing' without music. I ask this as I was at the MAC exhibit last week in Montreal and one of the exhibit rooms had this recording. It was a brilliant and beautiful thing to experience. ...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Vickie, Thank you so much for your report - I totally enjoyed it! And don’t worry; it could have been longer still! The photos were great too! As I was reading from, “I was standing at the foot of his grave” .... I confess there was more than one tear in my eyes and lo and behold, reading further ri...

[quote=B4real post_id=367707 time=1510442 I hope you are continuing with your visual art - maybe the last one in the slide show could be yours ;-) Thank you for your kind comments, Be! And yes, the 2 monotypes at the end are mine, as well as the sketch of Cohen with wings tucked under his arm- that...

Re: Montreal: comments and feelings

I have made I a little commemorative slideshow, featuring a wonderful song by Li’l Andy: “On My Way to Heaven Anyhow.” It includes this verse: “The only holy man standing sang “Be assured: There is a blaze of light in every word. There is a blaze of light in every word. I’m on my way to heaven anyh...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Thank you 4, I love the way you have catagorised events as LC lines in your report and I agree with Alan that it wasn't too long! Not like my answer here which is far too short :) I did listen live to the CBC radio 2 streaming of the concert so I have an audio idea of how it went and I've watched a ...
