Re: Hydra 2017 list updated & unconfirmed names removed

Apologies to our fellow Cohenistas - a couple of health issues have unfortunately meant we've sadly got no option but to cancel our trip this year - long distance flying is out for me at the moment, but we look forward to seeing everyone in Budapest next year. Have a wonderful time on glorious Hydra.

Re: the beauty of our weapons

I have a different view - I always felt that Leonard had a deep interest in the military and battle, which is not to say he was a raging pro-gun enthusiast, rather he understood the primeval instinct / human condition to fight / protect / raid. As with most Jewish, Christian and Islamic texts, battl...

Re: Leonard Has Passed Away

I was honoured to be asked to write thoughts on Leonard's passing and his 50 year influence on my life for the on-line magazine Spirit Fanzine. It's in German, however there is an English translation link at the bottom of the page: http://www.spirit-ein-laecheln-im-sturm.de/heroes/pdf/Leonard_Cohen_...

Re: Chopper sings harmony with Lenny

A bit of fun at a very sad time - We're in our courtyard listening to Leonard, when Chopper, the Motorbike Frog living in the fountain sings harmony ... beautifully! https://twitter.com/GregWRoss/status/80 ... 24/video/1

Re: Sharon Robinson

Thankfully we know Perla and Julie are OK, albeit distraught, but I worry that there appears to have been no statement from Sharon Robinson. Where ever she may be, I would just like send her a hug. In so many ways, she and Perla are, in a musical sense, together with Adam, the keepers of the flame.

Re: Bench updates

As much as I like the Hydra bench idea, I really think the various Greek governments are simply not capable of running anything, even overseeing a park bench. It's very sad to see a civilisation in such decline, especially the cradle of our democracy, but I think it would be easier to just walk away...

Re: the event after Budapest should be in Montreal

Ah Budapest! I have my heart set on Budapest in 2018. I'm very glad nothing is to change, Eva is such a lovely person and will I am certain, put on a fabulous event, besides, I'm dragging Ann along to Transylvania and Dracula's Castle afterwards! Montreal in 2020, as a twenty year celebration is PER...

1974 Animated Interview with Leonard on The Sisters of Mercy

I found this fabulous animation interview through Rolling Stone magazine's Twitter feed today and although it dates back to 1974, I think it's fantastic. If you haven't seen it before, it's a great way to celebrate Leonard's genius. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/watch-leonard-cohen-read-sur...

Salutations from Down-Under ... well, that's not strictly true ... I'm penning this missive from Lage in Germany, just 311ks from Amsterdam, but our home (Perth, Western Australia) is 14,134kms away (as the crow flies). I've seen that it appears I am the only Australian (or New Zealander for that ma...

Re: Sad news: Marianne Ihlen dies

Farewell to the lady so many of us grew up singing about, perhaps even, as I, lusting gently over as a teenage boy, studying that famous Hydra photo of Marianne in the chair, while I listened intently to Leonard sing. Hopefully a silver lining around the cloud, of just one week between diagnosis and...

Found! The Monkey and the Plywood ... Organ!!

So there we were in Bad Salzuflen - somewhere south west of Berlin and a little north east of Manhattan, when suddenly, there he was, violin nowhere to be seen, instead, Monkey with a plywood organ - Christmas you understand! - and a faithful companion to collect the royalties. You'll note Faithful ...
