Re: The Dublin live BluRay/DVD/3CD now announced

Americans should pay attention to its pricing on Blowitoutahere: http://www.blowitoutahere.com/live-in-dublin/888750355928 The link goes towards the Blu-ray and 3 CDs set. At the moment, it's priced at $33 and code "HALLOWEEN2014" brings 15% off that price. That code expires tonight, unfor...

Re: Marissa Nadler – “Seems So Long Ago, Nancy”

I wish Nadler would do an entire album of covers from Leonard Cohen. She is a criminally overlooked New Folk artist and one of this generation's most talented singers.

Re: What's your favourite song from each LC studio album?

Songs of Leonard Cohen: By far the toughest choice for me, I'd go with Suzanne . I could really name about seven different songs from this album, too many all-time greats to mention. Songs from a Room: Tonight Will Be Fine . This is another tough call and wasn't my first choice for many years, but i...

Re: New DVD

The Under Review documentary is not a bad video to watch. There are some interesting comments on it from a few of the critics. It was bad behavior to reissue it under a different title though, not changing one thing. They could have at least added some new material or something.

Re: remastered series - Totally Abandoned?

That is a good question to be directed at Sony's music division. Given the wild success of the world tour and no new remasters, I would speculate the project has been shelved. If Leonard's current resurgence in popularity could not get new remasters, I suspect nothing will at this point. The decline...

Re: Songs From the Road - new live album - Sept 14, 2010

I would like to stress that my comments refer to the CD only. I detecta lack of atmosphere there and the backing singers are almost aibrushed out of existence. I haven't watched the DVD set. Oh! Well, please watch it soon! I think the atmosphere is captured best on the DVD (or blu-ray). The visuals...

Re: Songs From the Road - new live album - Sept 14, 2010

My review of the "Songs From The Road" Blu-ray. If you want to skip reading it, just go out and buy it immediately. Even if you already own the CD/DVD set, it's that good. Leonard Cohen had not had a tour since the early 1990s, enjoying a retirement of sorts from the toil of public perform...

Re: Tony Palmer presents "Bird on a wire"

I would strongly recommend to people who want a copy to get it as quickly as possible. The letters from Sony to retailers and distributors must be working, as most every retailer is claiming the item is already either back-ordered or unavailable. Some have even stopped listing the item in the U.S. I...

Re: Tony Palmer presents "Bird on a wire"

As a large retailer that has many deals in place with Sony, Amazon pulled the DVD from sale at Sony's request. I doubt it shows up there anytime soon. Here is the Google shopping price comparison, with many links to retailers who are still selling it. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?cid=81894...

Re: Tony Palmer presents "Bird on a wire"

Watching Tony Palmer's film for the first time last week was akin to a religious experience for me. A simply stunning documentary that encapsulates the magic of Leonard Cohen and his music. My only regret is that the film was not released on Blu-ray to afford a better audio option. The soundtrack wa...

Someone on the writing staff of "Fringe" must be a Cohen fan

I did not see anyone mention this from last week's new episode of Fringe, a television show on Fox in the U.S. The episode, titled "Northwest Passage", featured a female police sheriff who quotes from Leonard's "Anthem" about how the light gets in. The quote was not identical, bu...

Can you give us a link to it? Good on SPIN for recognizing the penultimate truth. Thanks for letting us know, Phantom Stranger 8) . ~ Lizzy I would be happy to comply with your request, but it appears SPIN has left the article off their website. The article itself is only a half-page worth of prose...
